Frida became an icon for her ability to express her intense pain and passion in her paintings — especially self-portraits. Her flamboyant style vividly mirrored her theatrical life and revealed her complicated and beloved relationships with her country, her political ideals, and her husband, Diego Rivera. This painting was created out of acrylic skins (dried paint from my pallette) which creates extra texture. The layers of paint and colors are an apt way of representing Frida and I think she would approve.
