The End of Summer, The Start of Something Bigger

ree

The blackberries are ripening — and that always means one thing: summer is on its way out.

NOOOOOOO!

I love summer. Saying goodbye to it feels like parting ways with your childhood camp crush. You know the one — all those whispered “See you next year” promises, but deep down you wonder if you ever really will. And even if you do, something will have changed. That perfect, fleeting magic just can’t be recreated.

That’s how I feel about summer. It feels so good, and it never stays long enough. But here in the Pacific Northwest, that’s the deal we make: a short, sweet summer followed by the long, soggy embrace of fall.

And fall?

She doesn’t slip in quietly. She shows up like my period — a dreaded, inevitable guest I’d rather avoid.

But this October, I do have something to look forward to.

As I celebrate my 50th year, I’m giving myself the gift of a lifetime: a year of travel.. It’s been a dream of mine for years, and I’ve finally decided — the time is now. I’ll be spending the next year exploring old cities, quiet countrysides, coastlines, markets, museums, cafés, and hidden gems. I’m trading in my fleece for a passport, my planner for plane tickets.

This journey is about more than seeing the world — it’s about marking this milestone with intention, joy, curiosity, and a whole lot of freedom. I can’t wait to share what I learn, who I meet, and what surprises unfold along the way.

Want to follow along?

I’ll be posting updates, travel tips, reflections, and behind-the-scenes moments throughout the year. If you’d like to come along for the ride — virtually, of course — just click the button below to subscribe.

Let’s see where this next chapter takes us.

P.S. Stay tuned for my passport party invitation…because I don’t celebrate anything small, this we’ll be a banger!
